The Rev. Dr. William J. Ortt, Rector
410-822-2677 x303
fatherbill@christchurcheaston.org
Fr. Bill became the Rector of Christ Church in September 1999. Prior to that he served as Rector of St. Stephen's Church in Newton, Iowa from 1990-1999 and as Assistant to the Rector of St. Francis Church in Greensboro, North Carolina from 1986-1990. He graduated from the General Theological Seminary in 1986 with a Masters in Divinity, and from the Drew University School of Theology in 1993 with a Doctorate in Ministry. He is married to Susan Ortt whose full-time occupation is in Information Technology at Talbot County Schools and whose full-time profession is in the specialty area of husband-as-rector management, even while actively participating in a number of ministries in the parish. Many will testify to the fact she has her hands full.
Believing that the church is both expression of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and experience of the Holy Spirit has led Fr. Bill to appreciate the power and wisdom of seeking to be a "call-driven" community. "In every endeavor of the church we are compelled to appreciate that our work is undertaken in the name of God. Therefore the parish, in such intimate partnership as God's love makes real, will listen carefully for the voices of those being called into the varieties of ministries the Holy Spirit raises up and then discern how to support them, and let their ministries lead. There are functional things we must do, and that all churches must do, to keep the church going. We want to do those very well, At the same time the Holy Spirit is less about maintaining what we do as a church, and has a great deal to do with who we are as disciples of Christ."

Minister of Discipleship: x307
The Rev. Carol Callaghan
carol@christchurcheaston.org
Carol Callaghan was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church July 23, 2005. She has lived in Easton for about nine years and has been the Minister of Discipleship at Christ Church since January, 2002. Carol is married to Kevin Callaghan and she has a daughter Elizabeth and grandson Joseph, 11 years old.
Before moving to Easton she lived in Bethesda, Maryland where she was a program coordinator and teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools, specializing in English Literature, especially Renaissance England and William Shakespeare. Carol has always found meaning in helping people. As a teacher she worked with socially and economically disadvantaged, as well as incarcerated teenagers and spent her last 18 years at Montgomery County Public Schools developing programs for youth and families in crisis. Her life was changed 16 years ago while in Ireland by a life-altering encounter with the Holy Spirit.

Youth and Family Minister: x308
Joanne Browe
Joanne arrived in Easton in December of 2002 from San Diego, CA and discovered a second family here at Christ Church. Her faith journey began as a child in a small Sunday school classroom in Richmond, VA where she loved to hear her teacher read stories from the bible. In the 5th grade she moved with her family to the west coast and later joined Trinity Episcopal Church in Orange, CA.
It was there, during her 9th grade year, that she really came to know Christ. Through the prayers and support of her church community, the work of doctors, and the grace of God she fought and won a bout with cancer. She became very active in her own youth group and enjoyed friendships that went beyond casual conversation and deep into God’’s word. She went on to major in English Literature at the University of CA, San Diego where she also minored in Writing and Spanish Literature. While in college she held several leadership positions including Chairperson of the Residents Council, Resident Advisor, Multicultural Society Chairperson, and Program Manager for Earthkam (directed by astronaut Sally Ride).
All of these experiences, as it turns out, were a part of God’s plan in preparing Joanne for leadership in the church. Her first step after college was to work as an Event Coordinator at St. James-by-the-Sea in La Jolla, CA. Shortly thereafter she knew that God was calling her to work with youth and was led clear across the country to Christ Church, Easton. In every aspect of ministry here: working alongside dedicated volunteers, singing with children in Sunday School, discussing topics with students in CORE, sharing God’s word in classes, serving the poor in DC with middle school students, rebuilding hope alongside High School students in New Orleans …… with every step of her journey, Joanne is continually answering God’s call on her life and is blessed by the Holy Spirit - alive in this place.

Jana Leslie
jana.leslie@yahoo.com
Jana Leslie is a native of Leander, Texas—a thriving suburb on the outskirts of Austin, Texas. She grew up singing and playing the piano in the Assembly of God church in south-central Texas and has led numerous church bands and choirs over the past 25 years. Jana relocated to Maryland after high school and graduated from the University of Maryland with Honors in 1994 where she was active with the University of Maryland Chorale. She went on to graduate from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1997 and now practices law in the areas of state and local tax and unclaimed property.
In the late 1990s, the pastor of an Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baltimore City approached her about becoming the Music Minister of an urban church with a racially and age diverse congregation. She developed a gospel choir and fostered a contemporary approach to music ministry that appealed to both the life-long Lutherans and the non-Lutheran newcomers. She later relocated to Washington, D.C. and was recruited in 2003 to develop and lead the contemporary services at both Lutherplace and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in downtown Washington, D.C., which she did until 2008. Jana and her daughter, Calissa (born in 1998) and son, Kai (born in 2002) live in Bowie, Maryland.
